Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, inaugurated the construction of the Sunter C Pump House on Jalan Danau Sunter Utara, North Jakarta, Monday (5/26).
This proves that we are indeed working with more mature planning
This pump house is expected to significantly enhance flood control capacity in the area.
"I am grateful that today we are starting a localized approach to flood management in flood-prone areas," he expressed.
West Jakarta Beefs Up Measures to Face Extreme WeatherAccording to him, the geographic conditions of the Sunter area, which is close to the sea and where the Sentiong River's surface is already above street level, are causing floods in this area.
He assessed that this pump house has a very good system and can serve as one of the examples of local flood management in Jakarta. It is completed with three main pumps with digital technology.
By so, flooding due to heavy rainfall could be addressed quickly
"This proves that we are indeed working with more mature planning," he stated
He even emphasized the Jakarta Government's commitment to overcoming the flooding issue, including normalizing the Ciliwung River and plans to build pump houses in 13 other locations.
Thus far, the plan to build 13 pump houses was still under further discussion to obtain approval from the Jakarta City Council.
"There will be approximately 13 more points that we will handle like this, to resolve almost the majority of the flooding in Jakarta," he explained.
He added the Sunter C Pump House construction costed around Rp 80 billion. As for 13 pump houses would be built at pump houses of Bulak Cabe, Cilincing KBN, Warung Jengkol, Kampung Sawah Rawa Terate, Kayu Putih Rawa Terate, Ancol, IKIP, Cempaka Putih, Cempaka Putih Barat, Cengkareng, Mangga Raya, Greenville, and Daan Mogot.
"However, they must first obtain approval from the council regarding the budget discussion," he explained.
Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency Acting Head, Ika Agustin Ningrum explained Sunter C Pump House was built to control flooding, especially in Sunter Agung and Sungai Bambu urban villages.
It has a storage capacity of 2.2 km and can handle flooding in an area of about 20 hectares.
"The problem faced at Sunter Agung Lake is the flood height on the streets is the same as that of the river," she explained.
She explained the existing flood control infrastructure was ready to handle flooding if the rainfall is only around 100 to 150 mm.
"If the rainfall exceeds 100 to 150 mm, infrastructure development must be done. That's why we have the Suntrr C Pump House," she added.
As information, the Sunter C Pump House has a flood control pump capacity of 3x2000 liters per second and a sludge pump capacity of 1x250 liters per second.
Hopefully, it could effectively channel water and mud during heavy rainfall and protect the Sunter area and its surroundings from the impact of flooding.
